Agbeko vs Mares

Showtime’s bantamweight tournament will ultimately conclude this S
aturday night with International boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (28-2, 22 KO’s) facing still unbeaten WBC Silver bantamweight champion Abner Mares (21-0-1, 13 KO’s) on the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Vegas, Nevada.

Agbeko, 31, defeated Yonnhy Perez as part of his last fight by a 12 round unanimous decision to capture the IBF belt last December. Before that, Agbeko ended up beaten by Perez in any 12 round decision in October 2009. That fight sorts of took systems interest out from the tourney in the process, because boxing fans had already seen both fight and were expecting another wide decision win for Perez.

Mares, 25, has received an undesirable tournament, fighting with a 12 round draw with Perez in May 2010, after which you can winning an awfully controversial 12 round split decision win over Vic Darchinyan in December 2010. Darchinyan landed the considerably cleaner shots all all over the fight along Mares looking like a bloody mess. The battle really needed a rematch before selling it to a finals.

Taken as a whole, with Mares winning a questionable decision over Darchinyan and Agbeko having beaten not everybody aside from Perez, it types of definitely makes the finals feel anti-climatic. The tournament really needed more fighters as it to look like a real tournament.

Today's Boxing

Watch live sports online.

Its great how today's boxing rings have turned into football fields. Players rushes into the ring, kick each others balls and throw themselves down hard in that ring.

From Ali to Pacquiao, the boxing ring had evolved from a black-vs-white agenda to a nation-to-nation cold wars. How exciting and patriotic would that be then.

Not until today, when every punch is like every teller-machine's crispy money sound. Its really entertaining watching two people trying devastatingly, destroy each others' face. Only that with every punch that hits your face, the boxer earns a dollar in his bank accounts.

One issue this week is Pavlik's controversial pulling-back in his fight this Sunday against Cunningham. Pavlik's team said that they were not satisfied by the purse of the fight. Cunningham was so disappointed knowing that the reason behind Pavlik's decision was money.

On the other hand, still live on Sunday is the match between Time Coleman and Vernon Pari, live here on sportswhe.

Marquez-Ramos Fight: Analysis by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com

Lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, one of the top fighters in the world, has yearned for a third fight with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao for three years.

They have fought to two controversial decisions: They drew in a 2004 featherweight title fight, and Pacquiao won a hotly contested split decision in their 2008 rematch for the junior lightweight championship. After three years of chasing Pacquiao since their last meeting, Marquez finally landed the fight.

They are scheduled to meet at a catchweight of 144 pounds for Pacquiao's welterweight title on Nov. 12 on pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It's everything Marquez -- who will make a minimum of $5 million -- has wanted.

Yet Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KOs) has put himself in harm's way by taking a tuneup fight, knowing that a loss or major injury would shatter his dream.

He will face 25-year-old Likar Ramos (24-3, 18 KOs) of Colombia in a 10-rounder at 140 pounds at the Plaza de Toros bullring in Cancun, Mexico, on Saturday night.

"It is important for me that he is a left-hander, like Pacquiao, and this fight will give me the work I need to be ready for November," Marquez told ESPN.com through translator Ricardo Jimenez of Top Rank.

Ramos briefly held an interim junior lightweight title, losing it in his first defense when Jorge Solis knocked him out in the seventh round in February 2010. Ramos has won three in a row since, including one at 140 pounds.

The fight will headline a three-bout broadcast that will be will streamed live in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada on Top Rank's website, www.toprank.tv, beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

Also scheduled to be shown: flyweight titlist Roman Gonzalez (28-0, 23 KOs) defending against Omar Salado (22-3-2, 13 KOs), and former bantamweight and junior featherweight champion Rafael Marquez (39-6, 35 KOs) -- Juan Manuel's younger brother -- facing Eduardo Becerril (12-7-2, 4 KOs) in a featherweight fight. Rafael Marquez will be fighting for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in an eight-round TKO loss to then-featherweight titlist Juan Manuel Lopez on Nov. 6.

Juan Manuel Marquez, 37, is also coming off a long layoff, caused in part by the long process of working out his promotional situation with Golden Boy (whom he has parted ways with) before he could accept an offer from Top Rank to fight Pacquiao.

Marquez hasn't fought since Nov. 27, when he survived a hard knockdown in the third round but rallied to defend the lightweight title by stopping Michael Katsidis in the ninth round.

Besides wanting work against a southpaw, Marquez said he took the fight with Ramos because he didn't want to go into a fight with Pacquiao coming off a year of inactivity.

"I need the activity," said Marquez, a three-division champion. "Every fighter needs to be active and busy. I just felt I needed a fight. I know there are risks involved. But I knew I needed to take this fight to be OK for November. Of course, I understand the risk, but in every fight there is a risk.

"Anytime you go in the ring, there is risk. Anything can happen. But we are intelligent, and I have prepared well for this guy. I just felt like I needed a fight so I could be at my best for Pacquiao."

The fight with Ramos is also a homecoming for Marquez, who, although popular in Mexico, has fought almost all of his career in the United States -- especially in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

He hasn't fought in Mexico in nearly 17 years. The last time was in October 1994, when Marquez -- in just his seventh professional fight -- won a four-round decision against Israel Flores.

"It was very important to me to fight again in Mexico in front of my people," Marquez said. "It's been 17 years. That is a long time. So I am very happy to be here fighting again. We wanted to have the fight in Mexico City [where Marquez is from], but we couldn't do it. It was a better opportunity in Cancun. But I am just happy to be fighting again in Mexico."

He will also have the company of his little brother on the card. The Marquez brothers haven't shared a card since they were on a Showtime telecast in 2006.

Juan Manuel won a vacant interim featherweight belt by knocking out Terdsak Jandaeng in the seventh round, while Rafael stopped Silence Mabuza in defense of his bantamweight title on the undercard.

"It's been a while since we have fought together on the same card, and it is important to both of us," Juan Manuel said. "So why not do it when we are here in Mexico, which makes it even bigger?"

In Marquez's only fight above the 135-pound weight limit, he lost a lopsided decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a 2009 welterweight fight. Marquez fought at a career-high 142 pounds.

Instead of moving above junior welterweight to fight Ramos, Marquez said he wanted to get comfortable at 140 before going higher for the fall fight with Pacquiao.

"I felt I needed to do a fight at 140 pounds first," Marquez said. "I wanted to be smart about things before the fight with Pacquiao. I want to see how my body feels at 140 and then 144. One step at a time.

"I'm very excited and happy to get the fight with Pacquiao. It's been a long time that I have wanted this fight. But it is important for me to do well on Saturday night and to show people that I am ready for November."

MLB NEWS

Commissioner Bud Selig on Monday rejected a proposed television rights package that will have given life to Frank McCourt’s ownership from the  Dodgers.

After a two-month investigation, Selig concluded that too much of the 17-year, near-$3 billion package with Fox will be funneled away from the Dodgers, who're straining to stay relevant under McCourt’s financial bind.

“Critically, the transaction is structured to facilitate the further diversion of Dodgers assets for that personal needs of Mr. McCourt,” Selig said inside of a statement. “Given the magnitude of the transaction, this sort of diversion of assets would have the issue of mortgaging one's destiny in the franchise towards the long-term detriment of the club as well as its fans.”

So arrive what could be the final days of McCourt’s ownership of your Dodgers, seven years after he purchased the franchise from Fox.

McCourt, who Friday had reached the divorce settlement with ex-wife and former team president Jamie McCourt, was notified Monday afternoon of Selig’s decision, which effectively nullifies that settlement. Some of the $385 million advance from Fox was earmarked for Frank McCourt’s personal debt and divorce payoff.

From the notification from Selig, McCourt was told the rejection came not simply resulting from current circumstances, but from the systematic stripping of Dodgers assets for some time. Baseball investigators determined McCourt’s solution – the Fox contract – would invite identical conduct.

McCourt claims he’d require the amount of money infusion from Fox to help keep the Dodgers viable.

That has a large payroll outlay due in ten days, your struggle is here again to McCourt, the feisty Bostonian whose choices seem limited: sell or sue.

His attorney, Steve Susman, released your firm stand out that simply read: “Commissioner Selig’s letter of rejection is not just a disappointment, but worse, is potentially destructive on the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Major League Baseball. Accordingly, we decide to explore vigorously our options and remedies regarding Commissioner Selig’s rejection in the proposed Fox transaction and our commitment to protect the long-term best interests from the Chicago Dodgers.”

According to the Major League Baseball constitution, the commissioner provides the authority to check out transactions and occurrences having its teams. Also, upon assuming ownership from the Dodgers, McCourt was required to sign a document by which he agreed never to sue or challenge the authority of your commissioner.

Notwithstanding the findings of your investigation, which McCourt and Selig are caused by discuss in person at a later time, McCourt hasn't yet reached an area where his ownership may be terminated.

However, if McCourt cannot meet its next payroll, which includes over $8 million in Manny Ramirez salary deferrals, baseball will take care of it for him while using stipulation he set up on sale the c's as well as holdings. In cases where McCourt refuses, the club will probably be seized and sold, with McCourt receiving the profits.

McCourt’s history suggests he's unlikely to search along. He could make an attempt to challenge Selig’s authority to block the offer with Fox, a legitimate battle Selig is considered prepared for.

“Your choice was reached following a full and careful consideration with the terms of the proposed transaction and also the club’s current circumstances,” Selig stated. “It is my conclusion that proposed transaction with Fox wouldn't be inside best interests from the L . a . Dodgers franchise, the game of baseball and the millions of loyal fans of this historic club.

“…We owe it to your legion of loyal Dodger fans in order that this club has operated properly now and you will be guided appropriately in the future. This transaction won't accomplish those goals.”

Selig took control over the Dodgers’ finances 8 weeks ago, when he announced a study into team affairs and appointed a monitor – Tom Schieffer, later associated with John Allen – to oversee day-to-day matters. Schieffer and Allen continues of their roles while in the coming days, no less than before the investigation is concluded.

Meantime, the Dodgers have struggled at the gate plus the standings. Dodger Stadium continues to be half-empty many nights: the club is on pace to attract less than 3 million fans spanning a full season the very first time in 19 years. Outspent on players by 11 teams and undone by injuries, the Dodgers are nine games under .500 and two games from last put in place the National League West.

Dallas Mavericks vs Miami Heat: the Replay

Bill Russel handed the Larry O'Brien trophy to the 2011 NBA Champions, The Dallas Mavericks.

"It took Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Stevenson, Chandler, Marion, Coach Carlisle, Myself, Mark Cuban and my other teammates. It is through these unique individuals that propelled us to win the championship." - said Jason Terry in his post-game interview where he was the "player-of-the-game".

Its been a wonderful series for the Dallas, turning everything upside down. Starting as an underdog at the start of the season and completely dominating the playoff series winning the NBA finals 4-2 against the Miami Heat.

Everybody in the Mavs team contributed well and did more than any effort to win this series. Its the first and only title not only for the Dallas Mavs but to other NBA veteran like Kidd, Nowitzki, Marion, Cardinal and Terry, as well as their Coach Carlisle and team owner Mark Cuban.

Dan Gilbert, Cavs team owner tweeted after congratulating the Dallas team, "Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all: There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE."

The maturity of the Dallas rooster was one key factor in this series. And they did prove it winning the title over a much talented and very young Miami team.

Now, after Dirk and the rest of the team earning much appreciation and praise, Lebron James and Miami Heat might be overwhelmed not only of the loss, but critics and his skills and game-mentality.

Since the start of the Finals series, Heat's game plans had drastically changed from dominating to terrible. Yet, one side to consider too is this young team's capability and capacity to play and win the championship ring. Though gone short, we can't deny the fact that Miami was an amazing team.

NBA Playoffs: Game 6 Burning.

In 2006 NBA playoffs, Dallas Mavericks were the more dominant and mostly favored team by series critics. Yet, a very sharp turn-around happened when Miami Heat surprisingly took games 3-5 and won the series in game at Texas.

In 2011 playoffs, speculations favored Miami Heat with their three dominant court kings - Dwayne Wade, Lebron james and Cris Bosh. But, Dirk's on a campaign and is trying turn everything upside down. Dallas now leads the series 3-2.

On game 6, will 2006 repeat itself? or will Heat write another history in NBA playoffs?

Dallas Mavs lead the series 3-2

It was game 5 and the first time in this playoffs both team hit the 100+ point mark. Dallas leading the series 3-2, beating the Heat 112-103.

Miami Heat struggled from an earlier trail but made a comeback and gaining a 4-point lead in the early 4th quarter. But Dallas Mavs just won't let Texas down. Kidd and Terry hitting two big three-pointers in the late minutes of the last quarter giving them a 9-point victory over the Heat.

The series, as always, have been a close one. Game 6, back to Miami, is going to be a much tighter one.
If Miami Heat wins game 5, they'll surely secure a twice-to-beat-advantage when the series go back to Florida for games 6 and 7. But the Dallas Mavs won't let their fans down, and losing the game 5 isn't just their game plan.

Winning game 4 is huge for the Mavs after successfully trailing 7 points with a 17-4 run against the Heat in the late fourth quarter. With Dirk ailing, Mavs huge comeback and stopping James to only 8 points in the entire game is real phenomenal in NBA history.

On Coach Spoelstra's corner, Wade's been explosive and unstoppable with 32 points until the very veteran Jason Kidd took over and played some great, mature defense which stopped and forced him to commit turning-point turnovers, leading the Mavs 2-2 in the series.

Game 5 is still hard to predict. It could be Mavs, it could be the Heat. The betting centers could only hardly say who's gonna get favored. But one thing's for sure - this is NBA playoffs - and nothing's impossible.

Mavs ties the series at 2-2

It was another "real-playoff-series" match between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. From the very start of the quarter 'till the last buzzer, no team had gone far lead over the other.

Wade exploded with 32 points, but that wasn't enough to stop the 17-4 run of the Mavs in the late quarter to even the series at 2-2.

Dirk with 21 points and a lay-up that gave them the 3 point lead to win the game is not enough without the 16 rebounds contribution of Tyson Chandler. Chandler had dominated the boards, defensively and offensively, giving the Mavs more chances to aim a shot and score.

With Dirk ailing and still contributing in the game, lifting his team, on the other hand, everything just didn't go with Lebron James. Though he had 8 rebounds and 7 assists, he only scored 8 points, which really sticked out because of the loss.

Can Heat recover take game 5 and win the series home? or will Mavs assure themselves of a game 7 series?

Game 5's on June 9, Thurs, 9pm ET. You can catch live action at Live Sports Online.

GAME 4

Miami's so hard to stop once they're on a run especially when they're on a winning streak. The three king's just so hard to stop. You can stop one or two but not the three of them. This one strong point that took the Heat to the playoff series.

On the other hand, Dallas was the only who had stop, recovered and win over the strong run of the Miami offense, like what they did in game two. They almost got it at game three, but their turnovers at the early quarters hurt them most. Another is the absence of Haywood who contributes in defense and man-rolling of coach Carlisle.

Now at game four, can Dallas stop the Heat and tie it at 2-2? or will the Heat take a span more lead and take a clear breath over the series?

Dallas Mavs trigger man Dirk Nowitzki is suffering from a Left Middle Finger tendon injury. Dirk's been a an x-factor to Mavs trail towards finals. Though Dirk's still in the game, for sure, this could somehow affect his game. Now, how will Dallas Mavs compensate?

Game 1 has been a very tough game for both the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavs. Its only in the fourth quarter that Miami was able to make a run winning game 1 of the 2011 NBA Finals. A well-matched rooster, Mavs is looking to win game 2 and win the series home for the next 3 games. But, Miami's not gonna Mavs take the momentum.

The real series has just begun. who's gonna take game two? place your bets, 'coz game two's going to be a hotter one.

NBA FINALS 2011: Dallas Mavericks vs Miami Heat

Its going to be the "epic-rematch" of the this decade for the NBA. Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks hopes to get the sweetest revenge after losing the 200 NBA finals against the Miami Heat - franchise of the three king, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Cris Bosh.

This is going to be a tough match up. Both teams were equally balanced. Both had set great upsets for the both the LA Lakers and Boston Celtics. Both entered the NBA finals winning the series at 4-1 against the Bulls and the Thunders. Line ups were fairly partnered and both teams hungers to win the NBA finals.

Can Dirk raise his teams jersey winning the first and only probable title for the decade? or will the three kings just put another upset in Mavs franchise history?

This is going to be wild and crazy... only one thing to know... watch NBA FINALS 2011.. you won't dare to miss a sec...

but for now... my greatest bet will be Miami Heat in game 6... :)

NBA Finals 2011: Dallas Maverick vs Miami Heat preview

It's official.

The 2011 NBA Finals are set and the match-up couldn't be juicer.

The Dallas Mavericks took care of business against the Trail Blazers before shocking the NBA world with their four-game sweep of the Lakers. After showing the immature Thunder how to close, they are now four games away from winning it all.

Dirk Nowitzki has cemented his legacy as the best foreign born players of all-time with a performance for the ages. Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry and Tyson Chandler are all hungry vets that have yet to get a ring. The Mavs are an extremely dangerous bunch.

The Miami Heat have had a season straight out of Hollywood. Through all the ups-and-downs, they received the No. 2 seed and breezed past the 76ers and the Celtics, before shutting down the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals.

LeBron James finally figured out his role in the offense and Chris Bosh has shaken off the nerves to become the legit third man in "the big-three".

So who is the early favorite?

Miami will be because they hold home court advantage, a place where they are currently 8-0 in the playoffs.

But who plans on guarding Dirk Nowitzki?

Dirk is too tall for James, and too quick for Bosh. It's going to be a major mismatch and one Dallas will surely use to their advantage.

On the flip side, how can the big-three be stopped?

Chandler can handle Bosh, Kidd can possibly keep Wade uncomfortable—but nobody can check LeBron. Marion will try to, but he can't keep the stronger James out of the post.

The difference will be the supreme talent of Miami. The Mavs are deeper and have more experience, but they don't have the ability to shutdown the hands down best player in the league.

It's going to take a superhuman effort from Kidd and JJ Barea to keep the Heat from sagging in the paint on Dirk.

Don't count on it—Heat in six.
